Hailed as North America’s greatest sports car driver, Pruett broke the record for most wins in IMSA in 2016 earning his 60th win. His extensive resume includes Rolex Grand American Championships in 2012, 2010, 2008 and 2004 and he holds a record-breaking eight American Road Racing Championships.
Pruett has teamed with Lexus before, campaigning Lexus-powered prototypes from 2004-2007 in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Championship Series, earning three driver championships and winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona overall in 2007. He was also an integral part of the development and global promotion of both the Lexus LFA supercar and the Lexus IS F performance sedan.
He is the record seven-time winner of the Rolex at Daytona, including two back-to-back overall titles in 2007 and 2008. The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Trans-Am champion (2003, 1994, 1987); 24 Hours of Le Mans LMGTS Class Winner (2001); 24 Hours of Daytona (2012, 2010, 2007, 2002, 1994, 1988 and 1987); CART Michigan 500 (1995) and Australia (1997); Indianapolis 500 Co-Rookie of the Year (1989); and IMSA Champion (1986, 1988).
A native Californian, Pruett entered the racing world at the age of 8, while racing go-karts. He earned the World Karting Championship in 1981 and was inducted into the World Karting Hall of Fame in 1991. He made two IMSA starts in 1984 and won his first pro victory in 1985.
In addition to his exemplary career as a race car driver, Pruett and his wife, Judy, run the Pruett Vineyard in Auburn, California where they live with their three children. The couple also has written and published children’s books.
